about moore than movement
This work started with a friend.
In 2019, I began training Cole B., an undergraduate student who had been struck by a vehicle and suffered a traumatic brain injury. His goal was simple and enormous at the same time—recover enough to pass a Navy physical fitness test.
We got to work, and he passed.
Running alongside Cole at that finish line didn’t just feel like a personal victory. It opened my eyes to something I could not unsee—there was almost nothing out there for people like him. No accessible, specialized programming for individuals recovering from neurological injury. No clear path from the couch to functional movement. Just a gap where real help should have been.
One story became many
Thomas H. was in a car accident that put him in a coma for a year. When I met him he couldn’t stand on his own. We trained consistently, and he made real measurable progress.
That experience taught me something important. Consistent, progressive movement — applied intelligently and relentlessly — produces outcomes that the conventional system often doesn’t prioritize or pursue. I began to understand that the gap between what is possible for this population and what is typically offered to them is significant.
Moore Than Movement exists because of that gap.
the principle behind the name
Moore is my name, but the name means more than that.
Movement is not just exercise. Movement is how we engage with the world—how we reach for something, climb a stair, stand up on our own.
For someone recovering from an SCI, TBI, or stroke, regaining movement isn’t about fitness. It’s about getting back to life. On the other side of this training is more of what you want. More independence. More participation. More of yourself.
That’s what we’re working toward.
the background
I hold a Master of Education in Biomechanics from Auburn University’s School of Kinesiology, with undergraduate studies in Biology and Chemistry from Jacksonville State University. I spent four years in doctoral research before leaving academia to do this work—with real people, in real homes, producing real outcomes.
Prior to founding Moore Than Movement I served three years as an Assistant Professor of Exercise Science at LaGrange College, where I taught and applied the same principles that drive this programming. From 2018 to 2019 I served as a Strength and Conditioning Consultant to USA Team Handball, traveling with the team to Germany, Luxembourg, and Puerto Rico. Working with Olympic-level athletes using minimal equipment reinforced something I already believed — that the most effective training doesn’t require a gym. It requires the right movements, applied consistently and intelligently.
My background also includes competitive powerlifting and strongman. Those experiences shaped my understanding of what the human body is truly capable of when trained with purpose.
Moore Than Movement has been operating for four years. Every program, every cue, every progression has been developed and refined through hands-on work with individuals recovering from exactly what you or your loved one is facing.
This isn’t theoretical. It works. We’ve seen it.
